Designers are normally found in creative companies, and mainly work on refining the visual elements of a brand for marketing and promotional purposes. Photography, illustration, digital art, and logo design are just some of the things a Designer will work with on a day to day basis. Designers often also work as part of a design agency, which other companies hire to develop brand images and designs on their behalf. This means a good designer will need to be constantly on top of trends, as well as think creatively about how to implement design solutions.
Designers need a range of skills to be successful. Being able to communicate clearly is essential, and experience with design software like Adobe Suite, especially InDesign and Photoshop, is usually essential for any role. Being able to work well with a team, and share and foster ideas is also crucial. Designers are often required to lead a design team as well, so good leadership skills and emotional intelligence can be valuable. Given design projects are commonly deadline orientated, having the capability to work well under pressure is also helpful.
