Assistant Planner – Hampshire – c£45k This company is an established regional contractor providing complete construction services into numerous sectors including: commercial, health, education, industrial, MoD & residential.
An opportunity has come for an Assistant Planner to join the team based from their office I Hampshire.
To assist the planner and the planning manager in providing an efficient planning service for the business working with various teams as applicable.
To assist in producing detailed and comprehensive construction schedules and plans, which gives a clear step by step process to follow, ensuring that each phase of the project is executed in the proper order based on budget, work schedule, and available resources, in line with the Pre-Construction procedures and the company’s excellent delivery ethos and core values.
Key Objectives Work with the planning team and develop an understanding for each project, the level of planning service and anticipated time allocation to provide the appropriate service.
Assist with creating, maintaining, reviewing and administering construction schedules and plans, either Pre-Construction, Construction, or Design in line with the Pre-Construction procedures.
Make sure that the construction schedules and plans are within full compliance with health and safety, quality and environmental legislation as well as compliant with policies and procedures.
Work with the planning team and the Bid team by producing tender plans to support bids.
Assist in providing methodology/ site set up logistic plans/ prequalification information.
Input into Tender Submission.
Present information for internal meetings on the project.
Detailed Responsibilities & Accountabilities Acquire full conversance with planning software system.
Review the Tender documents and produce a list of planning deliverables.
Attend strategy meeting to gain a full understanding of the bid scope and current status.
Attend pre-tender meetings where required.
Assist in producing information for pre-qualification documents when requested.
Work with the planning team to review the 'buildability' of the project
- working with Bid or site teams where required.
Help prepare Tender programmes.
Help prepare temporary works schedules, scaffolding schedules and temporary electrics schedules when required and analyse quotations received and advise the Estimator.
Work with the Estimator preparing Preliminary costs.
Help prepare material in the agreed format for presentation to the Adjudication Panel and attend meetings when required.
Provide input to the handover process from estimating to contract when required.
Help prepare labour resource histogram when applicable.
Attend meetings with Client, Designers, and Quantity Surveyors etc.
Consider information passed on by Pre-Construction Manager / Bid Manager or Project teams and review with the planning team.
Assist in producing an outline Construction programme and ‘Working’ programme.
Attend Project Start up Meetings to discuss with the project team the strategy in which the programme and method has been based on.
Assist in reviewing and agreeing programme, method and logistics with project team.
Help produce the master contract programme that will be issued to the client.
Understanding different programme techniques to allow proper management and commercial protection to be achieved Attend networking / training events as and when required Attend training courses as required.
Attend site with the planner to monitor progress Accompany the planner on tender site visits to gain experience on the importance of the visits Person Specification.
Education, Qualifications and Training GCSEs (minimum of 5 at grade C or above or at grade 4 or above, including Maths and English) or NVQ level 2-3 (as appropriate), or equivalent experience A levels or NVQ level 3 or BTEC or apprenticeship (as appropriate), or equivalent experience / degree or equivalent experience Degree and professional qualification, or equivalent experience Current driving licence CSCS card Essential Technical Skills and Experience An excellent level of computer knowledge, keyboard skills and software expertise, Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel are essential.
Experience working in the Construction industry.
Relevant knowledge of programming software A working knowledge of construction techniques, methodologies and processes on a variety of projects within the business or across businesses.

Desirable Technical Skills and Experience Experience working on planning software such as ASTA Experience working on Bluebeam software for working on documents and CAD drawings Experience in SketchUp, design software for 3D modelling or equivalent Note: They will consider applicantions from candidates looking to move into Planning who have previously gained experience in Planning as part of their current / previous role
